I never saw this before.
In my chronological Bible[1],
the translators insert Luke 6:24-26 right after Matthew 5:1ff. Note the contrast:
Matthew 5:3–12 (ESV)
|
Luke 6:24–26 (ESV)
|
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. 4 “Blessed are
those who mourn, for they shall be
comforted. 5 “Blessed are the meek, for
they shall inherit the earth. 6 “Blessed are
those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall
receive mercy. 8 “Blessed are the pure in
heart, for they shall see God. 9 “Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 “Blessed
are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you
when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against
you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be
glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets
who were before you.
|
24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received
your consolation. 25 “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. “Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and
weep. 26 “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their
fathers did to the false prophets.

The contrast is stark.
The believer who is poor in spirit as compared to wealthy by the world’s
standards will inherit the kingdom of heaven.
Those who laugh now will someday mourn.
Those who mourn will be comforted.
Those who are full now will be hungry.
Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, will be filled. Blessed are those who are today
persecuted. Woe to those who are liked
by everyone. Wow!!!
