2 Kings 6:16 (ESV),
16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
This part of history and the ministry of Elisha shows the series of conflicts that exist between Syria and Israel. As the Syrians lay siege to Samaria, Elisha sees what others do not.
The angelic armies have been there all along, but they are invisible to Elisha’s servant until the Lord enables him to see them." [1] This continual battle between the seed of Satan and the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15) prefigure the One that would come and bring the conflict to a conclusion. “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,” (Hebrews 2:14, ESV)
It is true that “the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” (Psalm 34:7, ESV); and that God in His grace sends “... ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14, ESV) -- BUT IT IS OF GREATER SIGNIFICANCE that “. . . he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4, ESV).
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him
